A plantation pest is any organism – animal, plant, insect, micro-organism, disease causing bacterium or fungus – which negatively affects the viability (growth or volume) of timber production. Pests cause damage in a multitude of ways, directly killing or damaging the tree, stunting growth or reducing girth, affecting trunk straightness and form or reducing wood quality.
