Forestry Ownership

Contrary to popular belief there are literally thousands of timber growers, not just one or two multinational companies. These range from the South African Government, to over 25,000 small-scale timber growers. In total, it is estimated that there are over 26,000 timber growers and only ten of these are large-scale corporate companies. The bulk of timber growers are small-scale subsistence growers, aided by forestry co-operatives and social development schemes facilitated by the large-scale corporate companies.
