Unplanned wildfires occur occasionally at the Garden Route affecting various forestry companies and resulting in many needing to clear-fell burnt plantations. My research looks at the productivity and value recovery of two forms of mechanised harvesting in a pine, post-fire, salvaging operation. This research will assist the Sector by improving our understanding of the productivity and value recovery implications of selecting a specific system for harvesting burnt timber after a fire.
