Forestry career: 3 years
My role means I am continuously striving to eradicate SHEQ related incidents in the work environment at Merensky. My research into weather conditions, machinery and chemicals and how these influence incidents at Merensky, I hope will further reduce SHEQ related incidents. I ensure Merensky employees are trained and made aware of any dangerous factors, in the hope we can reduce incidents. My job has enabled me to expand my SHEQ knowledge bases, beyond the personal growth opportunities it has given me, it also enables me to contribute to the wellbeing of all Merensky employees and this motivates me to do better each day.
WHY I LOVE WORKING IN THE FORESTRY SECTOR
I always knew the corporate environment was not for me, taking the SHEQ officer position in Merensky enabled me to realise my passion for forestry and has motivated me to embark on a learning journey.
MY ADVICE TO THOSE EXPLORING A CAREER IN FORESTRY
Do not be afraid of facing challenges. These challenges will make you stronger. You learn from them and they motivate you to do better. Seize every opportunity that comes your way. Be your best possible self. If it does not challenge you, it will not change you for the better.
