As an industry, we need to play a role in wetland and river conservation efforts. The majority of timber plantations were planted on areas of existing grassland ecosystems and to a lesser extent in the fynbos areas of the Western Cape. These areas are also often associated with rivers and wetlands and as a result, we have a responsibility to conserve and, where necessary, rehabilitate these wetland areas as an integral part of these grassland landscapes.
